More Heavy Gear Blitz stuff

It's funny you know how sometimes it's like companies can read your mind isn't it? Come on. you know what I mean. You're busy minding your own business and suddenly you think "you know what would be a really good idea..." and then bam!!! Next thing you know there's an advert selling you that exact product on TV. I've often wondered how many people must have thought sliced bread was a good idea before somebody actually did it. Well I had a sort of similar thing recently actually. As you all know I've become a bit smitten of late with all things Heavy Gear Blitz, and it seems a few of you have as well, and you've brought starter sets and all sorts of other goodies. Again I'm sorry about the impact this has had on your bank balance... but I digress.

I received an email from one of my lovey readers who asked me "what do you do for scenery"... well... erm... I actually don't have any 12/15mm scale scenery, and I may just be using appropriately sized cardboard boxes at the moment. For shame, for shame! I know, it's terrible isn't it, and it probably makes me a very bad person and I'm sure it makes me a very bad example. I have to be brutally honest and say it is really unsatisfactory to find myself in such a horrible predicament, normally I like my games to be played on appropriately styled gaming boards. I had to acknowledge my guilt and admit my shame to this reader as well, and I promised I'd look into it for him, and maybe even look to finally get my arse in gear and make some scenery myself and produce some articles about it.

Swanky looking... now where's the outside swimming pool?

Then guess what? An email lands in my inbox informing me of Dream Pod 9's release schedule... and hang on a minute... is that a bundle of resin scenery? Bingo! Problem solved. I swear it's like sometimes they read our minds. For some no doubt the Badlands Outpost Set will be a Godsend. I have to admit I'm just a little bit tempted myself. So what do you get in the box? Well the picture above shows you what you get, but in list form it's this:

  • x1 Badlands Outpost
  • x1 Badlands Housing Module
  • x1 Badlands Tower
  • x1 Solar Panel
  • x1 Water Condenser
  • x2 Water Tanks

So how much does it cost? Well it's $99.95CAN and $99.09US, for those of you who purchase your products in the worlds most endangered currency it is €80.96 and in real money it is £63. You notice how the British pound is worth more than all those other currencies? That's real money that is! So if you have just brought yourselves a load of Heavy Gear Blitz mini's and are looking for some suitable scenery perhaps this is something worth considering. there's actually a pretty good selection of Heavy Gear Blitz themed terrain on their webstore.

Yet more resin base options to choose from.

There's also going to be some scenic jungle resin bases released as well, as you can see from the lovely picture. I'm a fan of the scenic base, and lately I don't think there has been a force or army for a game I haven't put on resin scenic bases, my Heavy Gear Blitz stuff though... well that's for another article. Suffice to say there are also some nice hex base options on the Dream Pod 9 webstore. Before I nip off to make myself a nice cup of Darjeeling Tea I feel it is also my civic duty to remind you all that right now Dream Pod 9 are having a Heavy Gear Summer Blitz Event, which includes online store exclusive Task Force and Armour deals. You can read about them on my Blog in this article. They all represent fantastic value for money they really do, and if you are considering taking the plunge into Heavy Gear Blitz I can heartily recommend you take a serious look at these deals. The task force deals all represent a very significant force for their respective factions, and you'll not need much beyond those deals. I'm still really tempted to get myself the PRDF deals because I want a second force with which to demo the game... honest... my intentions are purely noble and not motivated by greed at all. Peace out!

    1. Loose tea is what I primarily use... but sometimes for speed and that instant tea hit you can't beat a good old fashioned tea bag!!!

    2. Very true! But when you have the time, loose tea is really worth it in my opinion. Do you stick with your Darjeeling or do you go for variety? I've mostly got greens and oolongs at the moment.

Little toy soldiers and tea, best post ever :p

    3. Oh I have plenty of teas!!! Green Tea, various mint teas, right now in our household we have roughly 22 varieties of loose tea, and a few more teas in bags. It's a way of life!!!

    4. Same-ish here, althought I don't have any mint teas :p Out of curiosity, do you get that much difference between those or are they scented?

    5. Hmmm... perhaps I should do a Sunday Sermon on teas! :)

Yeah you can get a fair degree of difference between different mint teas. Like other tea leaves there are differing varieties of mint tea and also how the mint leaves are prepared prior to storage makes a difference.

There's also making mint tea North African style too, which uses fresh mint leave in a large bundle in a metal tea pot, using exceedingly hot water and more sugar than should be legal. They then leave it to brew for a while until the mint tea is cool enough to drink. It's possibly my favourite way to drink mint tea.

    6. Well, I'm not to sure about the rest of your readers, but that would be awesome :p Don't think Hendie will be a fan though ;)

Makes sense really. I only ever saw one kind of mint tea sold here, so I never thought about it. Mind you, there's a tea shop here that sells Sencha like there's only one of that as well.

Never drank it like that, but if it's like the Moroccan pastries I had recently, it'll be way too sweet for me :p

    7. Yeah... I don't think that Sunday Sermon would be going down in my list of all time favourites... :)

To be fair though, that North African mint tea does sound like the least bad variant that I've heard of!

    3. I don't know, you're part of the Commonwealth and you don't drink tea... I'll have to let the Queen know about this treachery!!!

  4. Tea?! Absolutely vile in all its forms!

A nice cup of coffee? Now you're talking, but only at work.

Anyway, back to the subject of the article...

Heavy Gear Blitz... Mr FLG you have a lot to answer for in this regard... You managed to convince me to get hold of some Heavy Gear and its done nothing but sit in a drawer ever since. That's obviously all your fault and has nothing to do with the fact that I've been slack with my modelling and painting!

The main reason that nothing has happened with these is because of the ever increasing list of things I need to build and paint; my priorities keep shifting but there always seems to be something just ahead of Heavy Gear on the list. Another reason is that I want to get hold of some of these scenic bases that you keep bigging up but I think they're only available from the official site so I've never got round to sticking an order in. My final excuse is knowing how to assemble the minis I have; there are so many options and given that I still have no idea of the rules I don't know what weapon options I should be giving things.

    1. We can't have that Hendie... drop me an email and I'll send you some really small rare earth magnets so you can magnetize your weapons and swap them in and out to maximise your loadout options!!!

I know that won't stop you hating me... but it's a start. :P

    2. A bit of a stupid question here. But to get the handheld weapons on most of the gears, do you just cut of the grip and glue/pin/magnetize the thing onto the fist or am I missing something?

      Delete
    3. The only stupid question is the one you already know the answer too!!!

Yep if you want your Gear to be holding its weapon you normally just have to clip whatever gun grip there is off. It's all pretty straight forward. Martin at Fire Broadside did a pretty good tutorial of how to magnetize his Gears. I'll try and find the link for you.

    4. Thanks! I hope I'm not too late, but I had a look at Martin's blog and found it myself :) Time to break out the magnets again!

    5. That's an unbelievably generous off with regard to the rare earth magnets but I actually have some that I think might be suitable for the job. Coincidentally a friend asked me about them yesterday, I promised to dig them out for him, couldn't find them and today found them in the bottom of my work bag, of all places!

I might very well drop you an e-mail to ask for a bit of info/tips with regards to Heavy Gear and assembly. Now I've just got to clear my schedule and get my arse into gear re ordering, building and painting. I dug out my minis, had a bit of a play around and took my rulebook to work for a read on lunch so it's a start. Baby steps and all that.
