More new hovertank goodness for Heavy Gear Blitz

I've often poked fun at those of you who I've convinced to spend oodles of cash on shiny new product, my local nickname of 'Games Pimp' it seems has gone global. Not too sure whether I should be proud of that, but hey stuff it, I'll take it as a compliment! However, I am now starting to understand how I must make you guys feel when you all start reading my bloody Blog. You see I have my very own Canadian games pimp, and his name is John Nguyen. This unscrupulous Canuck keeps sending me completely unsolicited emails about giant robots and hovertanks. It's all totally uncalled for and quite frankly I'm getting really fed up with it now. I mean he knows I like giant robots and hovertanks, but that I can't afford them right now, it's torture I tell you, torture! Cruel and unusual punishment it is, here let me show you what I'm talking about:

You see what I mean? How wrong is it to send a shiny addict like me a picture of THAT!!! Look at it damn you, it's a hovertank and everything. So sexy, totally pushes all of my male nerd buttons... well almost all. There's no tentacles.

Look he even sent me a 'doggy style'  picture of it taken from the 'rear', nudge nudge wink wink. It's just downright provocation that is. I do like the fact that it looks a fair bit sleeker than the chunky troop carrying Sampson. This thing looks like it's meant to be a highly mobile death-dealer.

Which is totally handy because that's exactly what this thing is. The Fusilier is probably going to be my tank of choice, alongside the Voltigeur when I get a job and can pay for this stuff... oh who the hell am I kidding? When I get a job they're all going to be my tanks of choice... what the hell is wrong with me? do I need help?

Now if your Fusilier's ends up looking like this it's probably because you've been driving them wrong. Very wrong. I only really included this picture so I could say that... I thought it would sound funny... but reading it back it's not as funny as I thought... hmm... *mental note to self humour chip might be malfunctioning*

Another wide angled lens shot of the Fusilier frolicking in the deserts of Terra Nova. It's probably looking all coquettishly over it's rear thrusters at some poor guy, and batting its laser designators at them while saying "chase me, chase me!"... you dirty little... ahem... yes well...

Oh now COME ON!!! That's just totally uncalled for. That's gratuitous, that's what that is. That's the Sampson, Voltigeur and a Fusilier in a row, having a theesome! I think in the pr0n industry they call that the 'money shot'. Damn you Dream Pod 9, damn you... well played John, well played!!!

See, now tell me that isn't some form of torture. If any of you see this man called John Nguyen (if that is your real name) you have my permission to kick him in the shin and maybe give him a Chinese burn... complete and utter sod that he is. Any way that's two (Fusilier and Voltigeur) of the really sexy looking tanks that I wanted for my NuCoal forces out now... and damn do they look pretty darn good. I don't suppose anyone's got a spare kidney they fancy 'lending' me do they? Yeah, thought not. Any way this delightful resin tank will set you back $21CAN, roughly $21US and of course about £13 in real money, or thereabouts. For a limited time Dream Pod 9 will be offering a deal whereby you'll be able to buy 3 Fusiliers, which is what you need to field a full squad for $59.95CAN (EDIT: Price is actually $58.00CAN), which isn't a huge saving, but is a saving nevertheless, so if you are after these bad boys you might want to look out for that deal. Peace out!

PS Blackbrunsiwicker you still haven't got in touch, where are you? On Wednesday you won a snap competition for the Ax Faction Victorian Darling Kraken Hunter, you can find the details HERE. You now have just under 48 hours to claim her though, as on Monday 11th of June 2012, at 12:00 PM GMT I'll be selecting somebody else to win her!!!

    2. Lol, you dirty dirty man :p

But no, not the good one unfortunately..

Sigh, now you have me reading the faction rundown on the HGB site.. I think I'll bookmark it.. you know.. for future reference..

Any chance of an article on the gameplay in the future? For purely academic purposes of course..

    3. Funny you should mention that, I've done an article on the game a few months back:

      http://thefrontlinegamer.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/games-that-currently-intrigue-me-heavy.html

You can download the rules for free. I'll be reviewing the rulebook at some point over the next two weeks or so.

    4. Right.. I gave the article a read before asking the question, but for some reason I missed the quick start rules..

      Thanks!

    5. No problem. I personally think more companies should do quickstart rules as a taster.

  2. There's one guy in our local circle who is also the guy who just mentions the hot new-ness coming out, and sends pics of new releases that are all too tempting.

    1. Well sounds like your friend and I are kindred spirits!!! The hobby needs people like us though, the foul temptresses of shinies. Without us no one would by any new toys and the hobby would die... well that's what I keep telling myself any way.

  3. I'm not sure if you played video games, but the whole set up are like front mission. Which is good. Will look more into the game system when it expand more on their miniatures. They're getting close enough to get me on buying those.... not yet still =P

    1. Yeah I've played Front Mission, and I can see where you're coming from. However, Front Mission actually borrows heavily from certain anime very hevily, things like Votoms etc. so I think it's just likely the two products, Front Mission and Heavy Gear are borrowing heavily from the same sources. As to the game and minis... expect a few more reviews in coming.

  4. I've been playing Heavy Gear since it first started... it helps that I live less then two hours away from the DP9 gents. Sorry us North Americans (I'm also a Canadian) mesure distance in time, not Km. They had a great showing at Game Summit, in Ottawa (my Countries capital city) and the whole DP9 crew was out.

This of course lead to many purhcases. Now Blitz is not what I want to invest time (and money) into right now, as I've just started Infinity, but the two Squad Packs I got, some magnets and a pin vise have let me intsead play some Heavy Gear: Arena

Also those posts are dirty, so filthy... yeah. I'm PRDF all the way so this is more of a target recognition guide.

    1. I have another friend looking at the PRDF right now. So I've been able to pimp HGB quite successfully in the locality. Once people see what the mini's are like and how good it is as a product people want to give it a go.

Go on admit it... you have tank envy!!! :P

    1. Of course hovertanks are sexy... and anyone who says otherwise is neither a geek, nor a man!!!

  6. Yeah. It's cool. Just give the Victorian kraken hunter to me ;-).

    Also, sexy tanks. I approve.

    1. I have decided who the Victorian Kraken Hunter goes too if Blackbrunswicker doesn't claim it... BUT, I'm not saying who it is yet!!!

  7. Damn those models!
That tank has officially convinced me to root through my old mini cases and drag out all of those HG models I bought to play the RPG. Now i have to decide on a faction, get myself the rulebook and possibly put those models to use... or at least to the paint brush.
    CURSES!
(side note: I may, or may not have an unhealthy love of hovertanks. ok. I admit it. I do.)

    1. Yes that's it, give in to the darkside!!!

As I said above hovertanks are sexy as hell, anyone who says otherwise does not belong here. They should go collect toenail clippings or something, because you're dead inside, yes you in the corner, you're dead inside.

  8. Those are indeed nice looking models! I really like the NuCoal style tanks, more than the other factions. I've always thought the vehicles were the Heavy Gear weak point, but DP9 is obviously stepping up their game.

I would like to get a Badger for my infantry platoon though, to really get a feel for it myself.

    1. Yeah, well you know my biggest reservations miniature wise when I first looked at the game were all about the vehicles and some of the tanks. But I have to say the tanks they've brought out for NuCoal stuff look splendid they really do. I'd go as far to suggest that actually they're some of the better miniatures in the NuCoal range. I love them all.

    2. Yeah, I'm a bit jelous about that actually. Haha! Then again I really should build up another small force so I can start pimping the game. NuCoal perhaps...

    3. Matey, from the sounds of things that's likely to be the only way you're going to get a game anytime soon.
