New Freebooter's Fate faction

Awesome!!!

There's a double dose of Freebooter's Fate goodness today. The cat is well and truly out of the bag... or should that be voodoo cat? Well, whatever, Freebooter Miniatures have announced the sixth faction for their Freebooter's Fate game, the cult. You can read the press release here. There have been requests for a voodoo, or zombie pirates faction for Freebooter's Fate on many message boards now, but I know Werner didn't want to do just Le Chuck in miniatures form from Monkey Island. He wanted to find his own unique way of badging it and put his own unique stamp on it. So I'm personally really excited to see what he's come up with.

Well for those lucky buggers who will be attending Spiel in Essen you'll have the chance to pick these bad boys (and hopefully girls) up early, with beta test rules. Sweet! Not so sweet is the fact that I won't be there, bummer!!! So I urge all of you going to Spiel to go and pick up the starter set and tell me all about them, so I can enjoy them vicariously through you guys. I'm all excited about Freebooter's Fate again, what with the Indiegogo campaign and now the announcement of a sixth faction... it's a good time to be looking to get into Freebooter's Fate. Who knows they might include discounted starter sets in their campaign as add on options... Peace out!

    1. PMSL... I've had 5 abusive (joking) emails cursing me for posting this up here because of the same reason. Cult based voodoo pirates. Seriously what the hell isn't to love about that?

    4. Sadwalletface indeed. I'm so gutted about the expense... yet excited about the faction. So confused about how I'm meant to feel right now. Perhaps I'll get drunk and swear at strangers to make myself feel better.

    5. But just think, if you don't get spend the money getting drunk you could buy into the next irresistible Kickstarter.......

    6. If I'm too drunk to notice them I won't care...

  3. Damn... how base dependant this game is? If I could base them on round 30mm bases I could justify a couple of factions as they will be doing double duty in other games...

    Help!

    1. I believe from other reviews on this site the back edge is your LoS reference point, but you could probably work around that.

    2. You would be hard-pressed to do so IMO, as the Freebooter sculpts all come with custom square base inserts that they are designed to slot into.

    3. Hi Andres, Baragash is right, the game uses the back edge of the square base for 180° of LoS, so they're pretty fundamental to how the game plays.

And as Mr Anonymous points out all of the miniatures come with metal base inserts that they slot into. In some cases these bases are actually integral to the miniatures physical structure itself.

So long story short, you could put some of them on round base, but they might look weird and others you simply couldn't. But having them on round based would stop you using them in Freebooter's Fate.

  4. Fantastic news - but Freebooter is getting to be quite rough on my wallet as of late.

    We've got:
    The Indiegogo campaign,
    The new faction,
New limited edition at Spiel (it feels like Ambush just came out!)
The last few releases from Deep Jungle,
Reported new deckhand sculpts for Pirates and Amazons.

    Madness!

    1. Yep there seems to be an awful lot of 'cool' landing right about now for Freebooter's Fate. But that's just the way it happens sometimes.. However, if I was in Essen I'd be heading straight for the Freebooter Miniatures stand.

  6. I did! They say Hi back to you. Apparently the indiegogo is going well.

But they said they were in contact with you, so you should be up to date.

The new minis look even better in the flesh!

    1. Cheers. They are indeed in contact with me and hopefully I'll be able to put some more articles out for Freebooter's Fate soon enough and show you all some cool stuff.

I can't wait to see the new mini's myself... and yeah the Indiegogo campaign seems to be going along pretty well.
