I know I've cause a bit of consternation for some of you guys for mercilessly pimping Heavy Gear Blitz to you all... and I'm really, really sorry about that, because some of you have been struggling to find the funds to get into the game. That totally sucks, and trust me I do know what that is like. Turns out the terribly nice people at Dream Pod 9 feel the same way, and are having a bit of a special deal on stuff during the month of July to try and help us gamers out a bit and get us on the road to mechanised warfare. How terribly thoughtful. So what's what?
Free is a really good price if you ask me |
Well first up they've done a Heavy Gear Blitz bundle thingy at Drive Thru RPG. You can now get all the HGB books and rules and stuff in PDF format for $72.00. That's actually not too bad, and if you have a non-specific tablet computer I've found having all the rules to hand in this format is really useful. It also makes you way more attractive to the opposite sex and important people will like you. OK that might not be entirely true, but girls dig technology! There's also a Heavy Gear Blitz art bundle you can pick up at Drive Thru RPG for $40's. I can recommend it personally as I have it, and I just love game art, always have done always will do. I find it inspirational when painting my own stuff.
If it's free why wouldn't yu download it to read? |
There's also the Field Manual and Locked and Loaded bundle too if you don't want everything at... erm... hang on I just need to read that again... nope, I had right the first time... for FREE! Seriously there's o excuse not to download them and see what the game is all about now is there? Even if you decide the game is not for you at least you can now make an informed choice. You can get your free Heavy Fear Blitz Field Manual here. Yeah, so it's a cunning sales ploy, but if you go into it knowing that then I guess you should be safe... ish. I should also possibly point out that you can also get Dream Pod 9's free e-magazine Gear Up totally free from Drive Thru RPG too, check it out.
I won't need any, I'm too good to get my tanks shot up... :P |
They're also doing some Fire and Smoke Counters, which will be sold in packs of two I believe, although I'm not so sure. They're actually being properly launched on the 4th July... erm... hang on. Isn't the 4th of July important to some people? Can't quite remember why. So keep an eye out then for pricing and stuff. I know some peeps like using these sorts of things to denote damage... and I guess it does look pretty cool.
But they've not stopped there. Theyre going for the one two combo it seems in the month of July, because they're not just offering you cheap rulebooks and free rules, oh no they've also got some pretty cool army bundle deals and also some deals on some heavy armour... and I think they're really good deals. I'm sorry to do this to you guys and gals but It'd be far worse if I didn't tell you about these deals.

I've posted those deals without any spin from me or gushing praise from me because I they speak for themselves. That's how they appeared to me, and I think that's all the info you need. you all know I already own a pretty large NuCoal force, and I look at some of those deals and think I could happily bolster my forces I already have quite nicely. But, I'm going to be honest here and say it's the PRDF deals that have got even me all excited and thinking about picking up a second faction... you know... so I can run demo games for people. It's not for selfish reasons, I just want to be a helpful gamer and be able to introduce people to the game. No really honest I don't just want more shiny toy mechs. Stop shaking your head like that, really... oh crap... I just really like the PRDF stuff too. I might seriously have a problem, I mean like a real certifiable condition type problem. I just can't help it. I want the PRDF Task Force and Armour Bundle. Help. Peace River Defence Force Out! Oh crap...
Just get the PRDF... Not every faction can be the defender of the little guy while at the same time training the elite of the elite gear pilots.
ReplyDeleteFor me, these army deals may have been just what was needed for me to start the Norlight faction I was tempted to do. Figured a Northern Melee capable force would make a good mirror to my 'make it rain fire' PRDF.
There is just something to love about DP9, and these deals certain give that something a little more oomph.
I would... but the Doctors tell me I really need this last kidney.
Delete:P
Kidney or Awesomeness... I don't know, if my insurance would cover it, I might go for the Awesomeness heh.
DeleteWe don't have health insurance... we have the NHS. I'm not sure we get covered for selling our kidneys.
DeleteDammit Frontline! Timing man! :(
ReplyDeleteWhy directly after Sedition Wars?
Adam Poots, if you are reading this.. Don't launch a Kingdom Death kickstarter next month!! My poor wallet wouldn't survive :(
Look it's not my fault!!!
DeleteIf you want to have a go at anyone take a pop at the industry. they're the ones that keep making awesome stuff and then selling it off at decent prices and having sales and stuff. I can't be held responsible for the actions of everyone in the hobby!!!
But yeah, June and July look like they're going to really hammer those wallets.
Lol! Why can't they take responsability and be more like gw! ( I kid, I kid, please don't hurt me..)
DeleteSeriously though, some questions. Did you get this info in a newsletter or anything because I'm only seeing the northern and soutern deals in the online shop. And also, are the armour bundles there to expand the task forces or are they an alternative army list?
I can't reveal my sources Aeria I wouldn't be a very good spy if I did that. Here's some more info, but shhhh, it's secret:
DeleteThursday 28 June 2012: Northern Task Force deal
Friday 29 June 2012: Southern Task Force deal
Monday 2 July 2012: Peace River Task Force deal
Tuesday 3 July 2012: NuCoal Task Force Deal
Wednesday 4 July 2012: Fire and Smoke Counters,
Thursday 5 July 2012: Northern Armor deal
Friday 6 July 2012: Southern Armor deal
Monday 9 July 2012: Peace River Armor deal
Tuesday 10 July 2012: NuCoal Armor deal
Hope that clears it all up for you.
Awesomeness ensues..
DeleteThis is exactly why I love your blog Frontline :)
Now, if you could just tell me about the difference between the task forces and the armour deals! Is it as straightfoward as the armour deals adding heavy armour to the task forces?
Sorry to be late to the show but I really am quite busy ATM.
DeleteThe Task Forces represent a really good selection of stuff for a decent sized army in HGB.
The Heavy Armour deals are bundles to add tanks to those forces, although if you wanted to you could field just tanks with some builds... but why would you want to do that?
Mechs FTW!!!
Lol, I'd say everybody still gets fast answers here mate!
DeleteWell, I'm having a PRDF task force.. If you compare these with the starters, they are just insanely good value. Don't know about the heavy armour though. I'd like em, but I'm already nervous about the import taxes as it is. Seems like a big box, so it probably wont go through customs unnoticed :(
Not using mech in a game that has them? Blasphemy!
Do want nucoal starter. Too bad that sedition wars did drain me as well.
ReplyDeleteSeditin Wars has drained the entire western world according to their total!!! Jesus H Christ!!!
DeleteI looked at the starter boxes a while back but even before I knew how tiny the minis are I wasn't hugely sold on the price. The universe is a favourite of some friend's and I loved the PC games and the general aesthetic but at the price they ask.... I dunno. I'll download the core rules and see what I think I guess.
ReplyDeleteI've reviewed some of the mini's, and I have to point out that those task forces represent a hell of a lot in game terms, they'r be pretty big armies HGB wise. But I can understand your reticence, and I know you're not alone in your feelings circa costs. All I can say is I had similar reservations until I got started, now I don't think it's that bad. But do check the rules out and maybe play with some proxies.
DeleteAt the time it was 36 sterling IIRC for the starter box. It came with six minis and the rules obviously, but for some reason it just plain didn't strike me as worth my money when I could instead buy a shedload of Elhiem minis and Ambush Alley at the time. I would buy it now, but back then I wasn't sure I'd ever use it what with being employed and all.
DeleteNo more! I'm already tapped out. I will not sell my body for models.. I will not sell my body for models...
ReplyDeletewell maybe just bits and pieces of my body. We have 2 hearts right?
Once again, you have blindsided me with something awesome. Curse your hide (and my empty wallet)!
Bah! I just spent my hard earned eBay cash on DropZone Commander! I cannot do Heavy Gear as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd when would I get the time to paint them anyway?
I'm wondering if there will be similar bundles for the Black Talons, CEF, Utopia, Caprice, and Eden.
ReplyDeleteI blame you and Martin at FB for once again rekindling my HGB interest. I'm positively salivating at these army deals! I had decent sized armies for both North and South but never assembled the mass of metal because it was difficult to get friends into it. But now with these deals.... argh!
