A quick update...

Yeah they're back again. Look I'm too tired to find new Meerkat pictures

Right, today I've got a house full of geeks coming round to play various wargames and board games today. So I'm getting prepped for that right now, so no major articles today I'm afraid. You see I'll be too damn busy doing 'actual' hobby for a change. However, there are a couple of things to let you all know about:

  1. Finally have the bits and pieces for my Sarissa Precision Gantry review as they turned up this morning. So keep an eye out for that in the next few days.
  2. I read this excellent blog on Copyright and hobby blog's over at Laubersheimer Industries. It's by Lauby of House of Paincakes fame. Do have a read of it as it's well researched, informative and for me personally quite topical!
  3. No I won't be doing a blog on either the 40k or D&D rumours. As far as I'm concerned there are far better qualified bloggers on the Interweb who are much better 'positioned' to write those articles. Besides I really don't want my blog to become just another part of the 'herd'... so please stop sending me emails asking me to write some. I'm flattered you think so highly of my opinion but seriously until there is something 'concrete' to discuss I don't fully see the point... even then I'm not too sure I will.

Right, well I guess that's it then for now. I'll pop my Sunday Sermon up tomorrow as normal, but for now I'm off to get junk food and fizzy pop! Although right now I could do with a damn fine cup of tea, Ceylon tea, Assam tea or maybe Earl Grey...

Peace out

PS, I'll also be going through my members list to see if there are any other blogs I seem to have missed! Hopefully ,not but I fear there are bound to be.

  1. I'd love MiniJunkie.com to be part of your blog-roll if it's not already (don't think it is - for recent updates I took a look but didn't see it). No pressure though :D - Jarrett

  2. Ah, so it is! I use Jigsy which makes updating easy but I miss out on basic things like a catchy thumbnail beside my blog feed etc :)

  4. Not having been quite so diligent of late due to Christmas cheer, I've only now realised why your feed has (frustratingly until now) been changed to the short format. I say frustrating(ed) because I read all blogs on google reader and now have to switch to browser and load full pages at a considerably higher cost in data. Unfortunately when it comes to telecommunications New Zealand is in the stone age; mobile data is limited and very expensive - oh to live in the UK! I completely understand why you've made the change and you'll get no complaint from me. Im intrigued by the feed expander concept and will look into it. I've noticed many blogs shift to the short format recently so perhaps this is a solution for me. Rest assured that any publication will only occur once to an audience of one!

(still technically copyright infringement but you could argue that in publishing material in a format that necessarily involves re-publication by RSS feed you give implied licence for the works to be published in that limited way - I.e. by a feed reader - the distinction would be that at the other end of the scale such feed stealing does not come within the implied licence and therefore is not fair use. Could perhaps be addressed n blogger terms of use. The real problem being that most gentleman bloggers won't have the means to enforce their copyright. I am a lawyer, though probably not a great one, and its certainly not an area I know a lot about!)

    Good luck FL!

    1. Sorry Mickey. I knew a lot of people read my stuff in Google reader, plenty of others told me that's how they read my stuff. So that's why I deliberately left my RSS feed on full. In Europe the whole thing about RSS feeds seems to be treated as a broadcast. So blog feeds etc are afforded the same protection in effect as TV and Radio broadcasts. Sadly that won't stop the odd asshole reproducing your stuff in full I'm sure. I didn't want to do it but felt I had no choice. Sorry.

  5. No need to apologise to me frontline, I completely understand the reasoning and I think its worth some momentary inconvenience - ill soon get used to it! Broadcast is an interesting way of categorising it, food for thought.

    1. Well I feel there's a need to apologise because it's inconvinienced people who liked reading my blog. I don't like doing that, and I'm upset about it. But equally I don't want total Jackasses stealing my work!!! What I'd really like to do is annihilate all jackasses.
