Just a quick heads up (2)

Just because I think they look cute

I very rarely do posts that say "hey, I've seen a cool blog and think you should take a look". I guess I should do it some more, as I do see lots of cool blogs out there and think "damn, this needs more views". Trouble is I normally have my own rubbish to write, so quite often I forget to say "hey take a look at this". So here are my 'go to' blogs, things I always check. I'm guessing a lot of you will already be familiar with my Swedish gaming twin Martin, and his work at Fire Broadside or James S at Warp Signal who always has an interesting take on things. Then there are my Friends Ant Holloway with his Geneseed blog, and Matt Sorrowshard at Rant in E Minor with his lovely Dark Eldar, well worth a visit if you haven't already seen them. I also often take a wander over to Von's Game Over blog, simply because I find his take on things interesting. I also regularly check out Jake Thornton's blog Quirkworthy. Because it's always interesting to hear what an actual game designer has to say, that and he's a thoroughly nice chap and a damn fine gamer to boot!

But I'm guessing most of you already knew about those blogs, and if you didn't hopefully it'll show you just how easy it is to miss awesome blogs on the Internet! I want to make sure though that you all don't miss a new blog that has recently come to my attention. It's not full of flashy pictures or images of semi-clad porn stars. Doesn't seem to rely on shock tactics to get rubber necking hits. Nope it's so new it only has 3 articles, all of them really, really interesting reads:

  1. Why Playing Lots of Different Games is Important
  2. Why Probability is Important
  3. Gaming and Metaphor

The blog is Rambling Dichotomies, and the use of one of my favourite words had nothing to do with me liking this blog... well OK, maybe it did just a little bit. It's written by IceRaptor, who was the terribly nice fellow who answered everyone's questions so helpfully on my Heavy Gear Blitz article earlier this month. So I really don't mind giving him a shout out, because he seems a decent sort. Any way, that's all you horrible lot are getting off of me today as I have things to do. Peace out!

  1. Ooh! Thanks for the shoutout, twin! I hope some new lost souls might stumble over to Fire Broadside and find it not too horrible.

But more importantly, glad you highlighted Ice Raptor's blog! I had completely missed it so this was great news for me. And like you say, the articles on the blog so far are both interesting and full of truth.

    Go check it out people!

Now, I'll be off to the post office to pick up the Shards of the Throne expansion for Twilight Imperium... :)

    2. Haha! Never!! My mission in life is to cram Twilight Imperium (plus expansions) and Earth Reborn boxes into every house and home!

Also... this new comment system is neat. I want it... but how? :)

    3. Well stuff you!!! I'll end up getting Earth Reborn I know it. Twilight Imperium I'm not so sure.

As to my new look comments section. I woke up yesterday and it was like it. I have zero idea how it happened and has nothing to do with me I'm afraid! Sorry.

    4. TI really is my all time favourite board game but it's tricky to actually get to play it as you really want to have six people and all of them must be ready to commit an entire day. So I understand your reluctance. :)

Had a look around and it seems like Blogger did good for once and implemented this today all by themselves! Not for me though... guess it has something to do with my custom template. Grrr!

    5. Well perhaps you can tell me how to edit it then and where to edit it!!! I can't find anything on it!!! lol.

    6. It's not something you can easily turn off unless you go into the code. Here are the basics: http://www.way2blogging.org/2012/01/official-blogger-threaded-comments-is-live.html

    7. Martin I just wandered if I could get more than just the one reply in a thread really. Seems a bit silly to offer a reply function and not give the blogger the tools to set the level of replies allowed... within reason of course. Still, I'd take this over most comment tools, at least this is stable.

  2. Thanks for the mention. I guess this means I have to actually complete the half dozen drafts I have waiting for me to publish them.

Can't let all these little fishes get away just because the hook isn't baited...

    1. Indeed Ant. God know's how many people will actually read this and take the time to follow the links though. Hopefully it'll be enough to make it worthwhile!!!

    1. Heya Mat, I didn't do a shout out to get one back :P

I did it mainly because I had no chuffing content to put up today. Mainly because some chap popped round and distracted me loads. As SinSynn world say Whadayagonnado? ;)

    2. If Doc H shows up, don't agree to the reciprocal plug!
      It's horrible....

    3. I'll take your word for it SinSynn. lol. I really ought to do more plugs for te blogs I read. Try and spread the love I guess. I might do a monthly Heads up. I've also decided I really need to go through all of my followers at some point and work out if any of them have blogs I've somehow forgotten to follow.
