600,000 hits

Well I never. Seems I sailed past the 600,000 hits mark yesterday or the day before and didn't seem to catch it. I have to be honest and say I'm pretty darn chuffed with that actually. I'm roughly 18 months into writing this Blog and I think given I do all this on my own, and that I'm not part of a Blogging 'collective' that's pretty darn impressive. Of course though many of you will remember that at my 12 month Blog Birthday I set myself some pretty ambitious goals. I'll list them again for you:

  • Have 1 million hits by end of year 2
  • Have 1000 followers by end of year 2
  • Have 10,000 comments by end of year 2

So how am I doing? Well on the followers score you can see for yourselves I'm at 917, so thank you all for that, as no doubt you're all responsible for that figure. So I'm not too far off of my 1000 followers target. Obviously though over the next 6 months I'm really going to have to go some to top out the 1000 followers target as I'm not sure there are that many more geeks out there! As to my comments target? Well my comments are roughly around the 8300 mark so that leaves me only needing 1700 odd in the remaining 6 months of year 2. Genuinely I think you'll all happily help me out with that one I reckon. But, how am I going on the big one? 1 million hits? Well at current rates I'd have to say I'm likely to fall way, way short of that figure, I'll probably look to reach maybe 800,000 if I'm lucky... ah well... it's good to have goals no matter how sodding unrealistic they are. Peace out!

  1. Congrats on 600000 hits and good luck with the targets. Make my 121 followers and 48000 hits in two years look rather tame

    1. I think like most things on the Internet Panzer much of it is to do with shear luck! I think I started writing about stuff just at the time people were looking for information on it. Obviously I'd like to think that some of the success I've had is down to me, I just don't think as much of it is down to me as perhaps I'd like to claim! :P

  2. Congrats:) Are "Hits" unique visitors or page views?

    1. Its page views Inkub. In terms of unique visitors a look at my analytic's tells me that I've had some 21,000 odd unique visitors. But again that could really be device and location specific. So someone might have accessed my Blog from their iPhone, there new Android phone, their work desktop, their home desktop and laptop and they might have registered as 5 unique visitors, so the actual figure could be somewhat lower. I'm not too sure you see how that figure is generated.

    1. I know, I'm pretty stoked. If someone had told me that I'd have had 600,000 hits just 18 months into blogging I'd have told them they were mad.

      :)

  5. Thanks for reply - yeah, unique visitors are somewhat uncertain, I know. But 21k of unique vistors seems pretty low I think. Your blog is certainly more popular then mine and it is just three, four months younger I think. And I have about 80k unique visitors and 380000 page views. So I guess some of my data may be off.

    1. Well you want to say you don't know. I mean from looking at my stats I appear to have a very hardcore of readers who will read everything I post, and because I reply to those who comment and get discussions going those people come back. You might well have more unique visitors than I do. Or my numbers could be off, Google analytics has played up for me before and I only looked the figure up because you'd asked so it could have been going screwy. I'll check again later.

    1. No I'd be needing roughly 67,000 hits per month on average for the next 6 months to hit the 1 million target. Just don't think it's going to happen, controversy or not. Besides, I'm not going to whip up controversy where there is none... plus our industry seems to provide plenty without me needing to go looking for it.

      ;)

Still, I don't think it'll be enough. But hey, I've given it a damn good go so far I think.

  7. Doing well sir, congrats and all that jazz.

Trying to think of ways to drum up more hits for you and keep getting stuck on the idea of you posting nudie pics of women displaying minis, etc.

This is why i dont think i will ever make editor of any rag.

    1. No, I won't be putting nude pictures of women up on my Blog. I'll leave that to other people thank you very much!!!

Perhaps I should hint at prizes for reaching 1000 followers and 1 million page hits? Hmmm. Maybe that's worth a shot?

    2. Prizes, yes. Though don't be an arse like a previous giveaway that I supposedly won on another blog and not follow through on your offer to send said prizes. That would be rubbish. (As I'm sure you wouldn't do.)

    3. Don't you worry. I've given out plenty of prizes over the past 12 months and I've sent them all out. I'm not the sort of person to renege on a prize!!!

I'll have to give it some thought...

  8. Congratulations! I'd say the growth of your blog is nothing short of amazing, even if you don't make it to 1 mil hits :)

    Only time will tell!

    1. Nah, I think the 1 million hits in two years was way too much of a stretch for me. Just not at all likely. Still I'm giving it a bloody good go.
