Freebooter's Fate Indiegogo Campaign

Yeah OK so my promise not to keep bombarding you with crowd funding campaigns looks to be faltering... badly. But, hear me out please. I'm weak. Yep, I said it, when it comes to really nice shiny toy soldiers I'm so painfully weak it embarrassing, I have slowed promoting of campaigns down considerably though! So what happens when one of my favourite sculptors (Werner Klocke), who produces the mini's, and 'stuff' for one of my favourite games (Freebooter's Fate) decides he's going to have a tenth anniversary crowd funding campaign, for some highly limited edition Freebooter's Fate miniatures? I tell you what happens, I start looking around for old ladies to mug and body parts I can comfortably sell, and hopefully live without. Something tells me either my bank manager is going to be very unhappy, or I'm going to end up with a criminal record...

One of the mini's is already complete... I wants it!

So what exactly is the campaign all about? Well it turns out Freebooter Miniatures, Werner's company, is celebrating a decade of existence (Just in case you couldn't tell from subtle hint in the paragraph above). Yep they're ten years old, and as anyone with experience of working in this industry will tell you, in this day and age that's actually a mightily impressive achievement. So to celebrate this monumental achievement Freeboter Miniatures will be chaining Werner Klocke to his work desk, and flogging him repeatedly at regular intervals until he completes a number of highly desirable limited edition sculpts. I know, I know, I wrote a Sunday Sermon about that topic recently... but hey I already admitted I was hypocrite! So yeah, I've been sucked in, all I need to do now is work out how the hell I'm going to pay for all this stuff. They will come with German and English playing cards so I'll be able to use them in my games, and also improve my German so they're educational... but lets be honest it's just because they're shiny that I want them.

All of Werner's Goblin stuff just looks absolutely chuffing brilliant.

The campaign will revolve around five legendary characters from the Freebooter's Fate universe, and I have to say I'm loving the 'greens' that have already been revealed, and the concept artwork for the remaining three legends look utterly spiffing too. Of the first two greens I guess Raven, for my favourite faction the Brotherhood, has to be a personal highlight, but Cerebro the Goblin looks wonderfully wacky and fun like all Werner's Goblins. They both look ace. From the remaining three legends I have to say I'm really looking forward to seeing what El Almirante is like, even though I'm not the worlds biggest Imperial Armada fan! Ixchelcoatl looks like she'll be another stunning addition to the Amazon faction when she's revealed also, so I'll be keeping an eye out for her too. The remaining Legend, Antoinette for the Pirates I'm sure will be something special as well, it's just that right now there's a lot of awesome competing for my attention. There's also a sixth legend that will only be available to those of you who pledge at the $100 Captain level, and she'll be for the new (previously rumoured) Cult faction and there's already a green of her (Galamite) done. It's all looking rather spiffing old bean.

Some truly awesome looking concept art.

The level I'm personally horning after is the Captain Perk level at $100's, which seems to be the suggested level for the campaign, as this is the sweet spot where you'll get all the miniatures and all the add-on stretch goals. Sounds like a plan to me. Although if I were really flush I'd be tempted to go for the Commodore Level, or double Captain. There's also the highly desirable Treasure Hunter level that will not only net you all the goodies from Captain level, but will also land you one of the original 'Greens' or sculpts that the masters are taken from. Yep, that's right you too could own an original Werner Klocke sculpt. Seriously, if you're a fan and you have the money that has got to be insanely tempting. There are also perk levels that include miniatures painted by the likes of Jen Haley and Rafael Urbanski, two very talented individuals indeed. So if you're like me and you love a bit of piratey goodness you might want to swing by and take a look at the Indiegogo Campaign, it's already achieved 100% of the funding required with 28 days to go, and is going very strong. So from here on out it'll only get significantly better. Peace out!

  1. Would it interest you to know that I have a Frontline Gamer clock? It resets to quarter to midnight every time you blog about a Kick-starter or indiegogo...

I think I would be more interested if there w a way they could tie in a starter set or rulebook?

I might drop them a comment..no ..wait that way madness lies!!

    1. Great minds and all that Minitrol, I've just penned an email myself to Hendrik et al at Freebooter Miniatures to suggest that very same idea... and yes that way does lie madness. But, to be fair, we're probably long past mad a long time ago.

    1. Good for you!!! It'll be well interesting to see how far it goes. We're only two days in and they're already passing stretch goals. This one could run and run.

  3. It seems like it'll be another crowded funding period between Freebooter's Fate, Helldorado, Darklands, ... Difficult choices ahead!

And yes, a pledge with the rulebooks would be completely awesome.

    1. I don't think you have to worry too much about the Hell Dorado one for a while. I'm guessing that will be after Christmas. I also get the feeling the Darklands Kickstarter, if it happens will be a fair while off as well. Mierce have only just been set up and they've got some 'business critical' things to navigate first. So as I see it for myself I've got that Endless and this Freebooter's Fate one to look out for... there's also another I know about but I'm not allowed to open my trap on it yet... I will though... soon. :P

    2. Hmmm, point taken. For some reason I had december in my head, but I can't really put my finger on why. I swear, it feels like I'm going crazy sometimes.

Oh for the love of.. Another one! There have been very few games you like the look of that I don't. Now that I think about it, there have been very little games I don't like the look of period.

  4. Damn you.... and coming off the back of an "all the models please Bob" Dreadball kickstarter choice....

I'll drive the getaway car yes?

I haven't actually got FF yet, but I really, really want to so it's difficult to resist some LE models as I know it's going to happen).

    1. I've had loads and LOADS of people tell me that they zipped across to the campaign to pledge when they'd seen my article so I know you're not alone. They might even add in some faction starter deals as add-on sales.

    2. I have to go into complete denial about that last sentence or there will be trouble....

    3. Sorry... I might have suggested the idea to them. I'm a very, very bad man. I'm almost certainly heading straight to hell.

  5. Yes, i'm in if rule books and starters are involved. (my wallet and wife are cringing haha) I have been lurking around freebooters fate website for too long, with the new Cult coming out too.
I can't wait for more info on Darklands as well, that should be the next writing competition. Oh man and dystopian legions is coming too..

    1. Well hopefully after Spiel in Essen the chaps at Freebooter Miniatures will be able to sit down and update their Indiegogo campaign. I'm pretty certain that they'll be adding the rulebooks and starter sets as perks at some point soon. So that will be fun.

As to Darklands I'm not so sure that will be anytime soon in terms of a Kickstart campaign. Mierce Miniatures has only just slit from Maelstrom Games and there's a whole heap of things with that which, will be need to be sorted out first I fear. So I'd not worry about that fr a little while yet.

Dystopian Legions... I don't know. Some of the miniatures have me nodding in approval, the whole steam punk vibe should do it for me... but truth be told it hasn't yet grabbed me. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's because the current crop of Spartan games aren't the tightest rulesets you're ever likely to find, so the idea of playing a small detailed skirmish game developed by them doesn't fill me with joy.

  6. I didn't know about a possible Darklands Kickstarter, I can be patient. I haven't played any of Spartans games yet, just like the look of the federated states models.
Does freebooters fate have quick start rules?

    1. Yep there are quick start rules to be found here:

      http://www.freebooters-fate.de//Downloads_en.html

However, you will need a specialist deck of Freebooter's Fate cards to be able to play the game. But they will give you an idea as to whether the game is for you or not.
