More Heavy Gear Blitz releases

Yeah so I might be a little bit late with posting the new stuff up from Dream Pod 9 this month. But hey, I'm a one man show on this here Blog and there has been a lot to write about the past few days as well as organise... hopefully you'll see the fruits of my labors this Saturday. I also have other things to do with my life so get off of my back OK! *ahem* Any way this months stuff is a bit of this and a bit of that. Not too sure what to make of some of it and other bits I think look pretty nifty, although I'm never too sure I'll take the plunge with some of the more worker vehicle type stuff to buy and play with, but some of it sure looks fine and dandy. So here are the pretty pictures:

The Chargeur all painted up and ready for Heavy Gear Arena.

Apparently if you paint it green and yellow it's suitable for use in Heavy Gear Blitz... cunning like a fox!

The Sapeur ready to rock and roll in Arena and Blitz.

The Arena one is painted red to denote... erm... red just looked good. Look it has a spiky shield!

The Blitz version doesn't have a spiky shield or chain blade. Bet its awesome at doing bench presses though.

These big truck thingies with the weird wheels are called Barnaby Gear Transports...

...and are apparently for the Southern faction...

...although I'm not sure they have any in game use as I can't seem to find rules for them!

As I say I'm not so sure what any of it does if I'm honest. I know next to nothing about Heavy Gear Arena as a game, although I will eventually rectify that I'm sure. As for the Chargeur and Sapeur I have to be honest and say I've not really bothered myself too much with them when I've been looking at list building. Although maybe I should. The Sapeur in particular has a pretty cool Aliens vibe about it, so I have a bit of a soft spot for it. As for the Barnaby truck transporty thingy, I'm not sure it has any use in game. I just think it's meant to be a nifty piece of scenery, which is fine, but I don't own any Southern Gears and will be concentring my own personal efforts mainly against the Northern faction and PRDF. Any way that's the releases from Dream Pod 9. Peace out!

  1. You're right about the Barnaby. It is more or less just a piece of terrain to use for objectives and whatnot. Just like FW Thunderhawks were before flier rules were released.

The construction gears are interesting minis, but not as good looking as the new Tiger/Sabertooth and Sidewinder/Command re-scuplts that were released just a short while ago. It is great that DP9 is coming out with the ability to pose to a greater degree though, so can't complain too much.

    1. Yeah mini's that are more posable are good on the one hand, but the fact that they're pewter does mean they can be a real bugger to put together. Still my pinning-fu is strong so I'm all good. Glad I wasn't missing something with the Barnaby truck thingy!

  2. I like that red one he's like a Go-Bot mixed with road warrior!

Soo ones Arena and ones Blitz? Are they factions or is this a gladiator sub-game you can play?

    1. Blitz and Arena are two different games.

Heavy Gear Blitz = full on warfare between various nations and factions and can involves as many as 20 or 25 mini's if you're playing a pretty big game. I'd say an average game is about 10 to 15 mini's though.

Heavy Gear Areana = much smaller gladiatorial combat between smaller groups of specialised Gears. The idea is that it's a sport and people watch it on TV etc. Much smaller mini count between 2 to 5 per side.

There was a computer animated TV series based in the Heavy Gear universe on the whole Heavt Gear Arena aspect of the fluff. It's not the best thing in the world... in fact its pretty dire, but that's mainly because it was aimed at kids.

    2. Hmm I like the arena idea. Ahhh I remember that series the animation was dire but it was okay, better than the Scooby Doo remake on at the same time.

    3. Well as kids programs go it wasn't bad. I just lament much of childrens TV nowadays, and have done for the past decade. So much of it is visual pacifier as opposed to motivational or educational tool it worries me. Many kids programs are aimed simply at selling an associated toy... hey ho... Dream Pod 9 with toy soldiers. Sorry, I'm very interested in developmental studies and it's a worrying trend for me, so I tend to frown upon such endeavors.
