300,000 hits

The cats would like to say thanks... but they're asleep!!!

I wasn't sure whether or not to 'big up' the fact that I have 300,000 hits or not. I mean it sounds a bit like bragging and I don't really like bragging, it's just not a very 'British' thing to do, we Brit's quite like reserved dignity. Plus it kind of passed me by that it happened, I think it must have been sometime during Saturday that the 'momentous' event occurred. I was then reminded of a certain quote I really like, that just puts all of this this into perspective for me:

'There's no such thing as bragging. You're either lying or telling the truth.'  - Al Oliver

And being as though I have actually surpassed 300,000 hits now, in around about ten months of Blogging, I'm going to say that's not a bad achievement at all. However, I wouldn't have made it to 300,000 hits if it wasn't for you lot who read this Blog, and those who have given me advice and support. I'd like to list all those who have given me support, friends, Blogging buddies and companies alike, but there are so many of you I'd be afraid of missing somebody out and causing offence. I mean, I recently asked for the silent majority to get in touch with me and let me know what you thought of my Blog...

Well you certainly did! I've been overwhelmed with the responses I've had, there's been just over 400 of you now who have got in touch, and the vast majority have been positive. Yep some have been negative, but I've taken some of the criticisms on board and accepted that some of them have a point and many more were constructive. But, this being the Internet others just wanted to have a pop at me, so I've laughed some of those 'criticisms' off. Any way I just want to say I've been listening to what everyone has had to say about this Blog, and I've been hard at work coming up with a few alterations and ideas. So I just want to say thanks to everyone for continuing to inspire me to greater heights, and for reading the stuff I produce, it is greatly appreciated. I hope I can still keep you all entertained and informed going into the future as well. Peace out!

    1. Trumpets indeed!!!

I'm not going to make a habit of blowing my own trumpet though on this Blog. I'm not going to throw up a self congratulatory post every time I get a new follower... but, I do think this is a bit of an achievement.

    2. Indeed! Lets put it in context. If these were individuals the entire population of my home town would have seen your blog - twice. These are big numbers dude!

    3. Yeah and if I had a pound coin for every hit I'd be able to live very comfortably thank you very much!!! :P

Does put it into perspective I guess.

    2. I believe there was a hint in there somewhere? :P

Im working on a couple articles now and taking pictures, hopefully I can have some content together for review here in the near future buddy. :) Im quite giddy over my recent acquisition of the Nomad starter set for Infinity, and one of the shiny new starter kits for MERCs.

    3. Good, good. Take your time, build up a good sized reserve catalogue of articles and then launch it. It's far easier to hit the ground running with a Blog than trying to get back up to speed.

  3. Bloody hell.

Well done, chief. That's definitely an achievement...

    1. Thanks buddy. It's appreciated. :)

I sat here this morning thinking, is it a big deal? Should I post anything at all? I mean I didn't do the 50,000, 100,000, 150,000, 200,00 and 250,000 Blog hits posts. I did celebrate my 100th Blog as that was the first target I set myself, to do 100 posts in my first year. A target I passed a long time ago now. So why 300,000? I just felt like it was impressive to me I guess. I'd have been chuffed when I started to have got 10,000 hits in 10 months, so what I have achieved with this Blog has totally boggled my own mind, and blown all my previous expectations out of the water. Everyone who contributes here has made this place such a success so you all deserve a pat on the back too.

  4. Am chuffed at having 5k hits on my blog in almost a year.. so 300k in 10 months is quite the achievement.. always nice to get compliments and critiques that can be used to improve upon those also!

Now on wards to 1 million hits and 1000 followers ;) Goal for the first 24 months?

    1. Thanks again for the compliment. As to my hits record inside of 10 months, I honestly don't know how I've achieved it. I've had a lot of people email me and ask what my secret formula is and where I pimp my Blog. Honestly, I don't know. I think it's been pure fluke if I'm honest. I got lucky with a few articles people have enjoyed and then it sort of snow balled from there. Others have then done the promoting for me... so as I say I've just been very lucky I guess. I see other Blogs that are as well written and even better written that aren't as successful so it is not just content that makes it 'happen'. Perhaps being pink helps?

Also is that a challenge? If that's a challenge it's a bloody tough one!!! Based on current hits and follower take up, hitting 1 million hits in year two overall would be a big ask. At current rates 850,000 or so would be good going!!! 600 followers would also be bloody good... given how slow the uptake of new followers actually is now on this Blog. I have a feeling everyone who would be interested in this Blog has already found it and are using it how they like... and I'm cool with that...

...But if it's a challenge, then it's s challenge, and my honour dictates I accept it. Damn this being honourable thing!!!

  7. Congratulations on getting to 300,000 hits! That's an impressive number indeed. In my opinion it's well deserved. This is my favorite blog to read, and the only one I follow. Pour yourself a fine beverage of your choice (I recommend root beer personally) and break out your favorite game in celebration.

Thanks for the compliment, and honestly I think I've just got lucky with this Blog, I'm not too sure there's much rhyme or reason behind what's popular and what's not.

  14. Nice one FlG :-D

From my point of view you put out varied quality content, you don't troll for the sake of it, you take time to answer people who post in the comments section, you don't beat around the bush if you don't like something or think it could be done better, and if you're enthusiastic about something you're honest about it as well. It all adds up to win!

I don't have a Blogger account so I'm not signed up as a follower but you are on my regular daily rounds of wargaming sites I like to visit to look out for new content - and not as one of the ones that is like picking a scab either! (BoLS 40k content I'm looking at you...)

Rereading my post I did mean "varied, quality content" rather than "varied quality content" which would be quite different! ;-D
